Hélio D. Vanimal is a Mozambican vocal artist currently living in Inhambane. He was a member of the band DJOVANA that became famous throughout the country with its song ‘Já chegou Djovana’.
Helio D has since released new albums and performed his music in all provinces of Mozambique promoting the value of the rich Mozambican culture and the need for each person’s individuality and creativity. He worked in an orphanage in Beira for several years, teaching children how to express themselves through music, lyrics and dance. In 2003, he coordinated the Fala Matapa project, an HIV radio programme on Radio Moçambique including basic HIV information, real HIV stories, music improvisation and theatre sketches.
During his one-year stay in Austria in 2004/2005 attending the Hotel and Tourism Management School in Klessheim, Salzburg, he worked on his thesis dealing with solutions for cultural tourism in Mozambique. Transforming his theory into practical use, he concentrates now on the research of Mozambican cultures and traditions.
