Darren asked me if I could do a kind of Funk style for the song in Helen`s school. He searched his discography to put on some tracks of Gil Scott Heron which we enjoyed a lot. Brian Jackson`s flute gave us the rest.
As we don`t have flute players around in Inhambane, I had to search my sound library to get the tune in the flute-funk direction… Darren asked for funky princey guitars, here they are. Drums are programmed, but still funky, don `t you think ?
After all, the song is one of the most powerful that Positivo has recorded until today. Lyrics are amazing and all the meninos and meninas did a marvellous job in singing and rapping, convincing the cotas (the older ones) to stop the confusion and taboos in conversations about sex.
“Hey cota, show me how to use the preservative, if not I might die….”.
” Mama, if you`d start talking about it, I would be the happiest daughter of all…”
So, my big thanks and maximum respect goes out to the pupils of the school. This was not the last time we record a song together. My enjoyment was at the highest, thanx… Thanks to my mum and dad to talk about sex just like a pinguin.

Listen to the song as recorded on June 8th in the Secundary School Eduardo Mondlane in Inhambane…
